5 Must-Have Travel Essentials for Kids

Rinda Angom

Back when we were in school, the yearly summer vacation was something that we eagerly awaited. A whole month off to go on our own adventures, no school or homework — sounds like quite the idyllic lifestyle.

It’s a different issue when you’re parenting, though. Now, you’ve got to think about activities to keep your kids engaged during their summer vacation. This can be a good time for a family getaway. Traveling with kids can be tricky, especially if you’re not prepared for it. In this blog, we will discuss five must-have travel essentials for kids that every parent should consider packing in their travel bag.

Snacks and water bottles

This is a no-brainer when it comes to parenting. Children often get hungry and thirsty during trips, and having their favourite snacks readily available can prevent tantrums and keep them energised.

You can even go the extra mile and opt for healthy options like fruit slices and granola bars to ensure a balanced diet. It is ideal to carry insulated bottles for having drinks at preferred temperature and insulated lunch boxes if you are carrying perishable food.

Comfortable travel clothing

Comfort is key when traveling, especially for kids. Parents should prioritise packing comfortable travel clothing for their little ones.

Choose lightweight and breathable fabrics that allow freedom of movement. Pack extra layers for changing weather conditions, and don't forget to include a pair of comfortable shoes suitable for walking and exploring. And don’t forget to carry swimsuits or personal towels if you are heading to the beach or pool.

Entertainment and activities

Long journeys can be boring for kids. After all, the charm of watching the sights require a longer attention span, to say the least.

A key parenting tip is to pack lots of activities to keep your kids entertained. Consider bringing colouring books, travel-sized board games, puzzles, or electronic devices loaded with educational apps or movies.

Travel first-aid kit

Kids are not always the most careful. Add to that the excitement of exploring a new place on their summer vacation and caution goes out the window.

Having a well-stocked travel first aid kit can be a lifesaver in case of minor injuries or illnesses. Include essentials such as band-aids, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers suitable for kids, sunscreen, insect repellent, and any necessary prescription medications.

Travel documentation and identification

When traveling with kids, it's crucial to have all the necessary documentation and identification readily available. Your kids will not remember to carry their id cards or even hold on to them safely.

Keep copies of their passports or identification cards, travel insurance information, and any consent letters required if only one parent is traveling. Staying organised with these important documents will ensure a smooth journey through airports or other checkpoints.

Traveling with kids can be an enriching experience for both parents and children. Planning in advance can ensure you don’t face any unnecessary stress on the holiday. Remember, being well-prepared goes a long way in ensuring a smooth journey and creating lasting memories for the entire family. So, pack your bags, buckle up, and embark on an exciting adventure with your little explorers!
